                     Rich Wetherbee

I started carving at a very early age. My father, an excellent carver himself, let me carry a jackknife, taught me the basics of grain direction and stop cuts. I started carving and sculpting the same time around 1982. I'm a member of the Caricature Carvers of America and teach wood carving and design throughout the United States. My hope is that my talent and experience will help wood carvers reach their potential and keep the excitement of this great art form alive! I reside in beautiful Colorado Springs Colorado.

What is a Roughout?

A roughout is a wooden “blank” with the bulk of the wood removed by a duplicating router so the carver can get right to the fun part, the details, a bit quicker. All of my roughouts are duplicated from my original designs and are made from the finest northern basswood available.
